Females are slightly smaller and less strongly humped

🌍 Occurrence (Natural Origin)

Endemic to Lake Malawi, East Africa

Found mainly in open sandy areas near rocky reefs and drop-offs

Often observed swimming in loose groups over sand flats

Juveniles frequently follow large sand-sifting cichlids to feed on disturbed prey

Cyrtocara moorii is a true species, not a hybrid or color strain.

🎨 Appearance

Adults are solid powder-blue to light sky-blue

Males develop:

A large rounded nuchal hump

Slightly deeper body coloration when dominant or breeding

Juveniles are more greyish with faint barring

🍽️ Diet (Preferred Food)

In the wild:

Primarily feeds on small invertebrates, insect larvae, and tiny crustaceans

Not suitable for aggressive Mbuna tanks
