Sandy bottoms

Sandy areas near rocks

Usually inhabits shallow to mid-depth zones

Unlike Mbuna, Nimbochromis livingstonii is a Haplochromine (Hap) species adapted to open and sandy habitats.

Pale beige, silver, or light blue

Irregular dark brown/black blotches

Pattern provides camouflage against sandy substrates

Males develop:

Blue coloration on head and body

Red, orange, or yellow highlights on fins when mature
